Breathwork

Healing the foundation of life

Breathwork

Breath is life. The way we breathe influences all other body systems and slight changes in breathing patterns can have a lasting impact on our overall wellbeing. To become intimate with the breath is to become deeply intimate with life itself and ultimately is a way to uncover deep-rooted patterns in both the body and the mind.

Conventional medicine struggles to meet the needs of those of us with Asthma or other kinds of breathing difficulties. Our healthcare systems break the body up into parts but in doing so miss the intrinsic links between various elements. To work with the breath is to work on a variety of levels; physiological, psychological and bio-chemical and so often breathwork can lead us to uncover patterns that lead to a variety of seemingly undiagnosable or untreatable problems. Our breath is a bridge between the conscious and unconscious realms and with this knowing we have a great opportunity to discover what lies just beyond, safely and gently. Exploring small but significant shifts which can be soothing to the nervous system and deeply healing in a multitude of ways.

I practiced yoga for many years before being diagnosed with Asthma in my late 30s. I struggled to accept the diagnosis and after sporadic use of various medications I finally found myself at a point where I was unable to walk for more than a few footsteps without gasping for my breath. At that time I was seeing a herbalist who asked if I had heard of Buteyko. I knew nothing about it and wondered what it could offer to an utterly baffled yoga student who had developed serious breathing problems and ill health.

The next four years of my life took me on a journey of deeper enquiry. After first learning to breath again with a Buteyko teacher, I went on to unpick all I had learned through my yoga. I completely rebuilt my practice from the ground up with a healthy new relationship with my breath as a foundation. I went on to study with Stephen Donald from Buteyko Canada and now, having integrated all I learned through my practice and studies I am seeing clients of all ages and backgrounds with the desire to reclaim holistic wellbeing by working with the breath.

Each breathwork session lasts one hour and cost €20. I ask for a minimum commitment of three sessions.

The first session is primarily to explore your state of health and relationship to breathing along with an introduction to some simple principles and practices. Contact me if you’d like more information or would like to book a breathwork session.
